Just as music as a whole has changed considerably with new trends replacing old ones and musicians coming and going over the years, the specific genre of Dance Music has been changing as well.

When we think of Dance Music we imagine clubs with loud thumping tunes filling the night air and young people venturing to Ibiza to hear the latest releases. This form of electronic Dance Music (which encompasses house music, itself divided into Acid House, Hard House, Funky House and so forth as well as the likes of Garage and Drum & Bass).

Dance Music also dates back to older genres that exploited dancing to create a certain mood – from waltzes to the tango and ballroom dancing. Then in the 1970s the famous form of Dance Music went by the name of disco, which remained until the early eighties when electronic Dance Music began to take its place and computerised music filled the airwaves, clubs and other methods of showcasing music.

As more people bought computers, the electronic dance movement blossomed, eventually reaching the modern day where there are countless forms of Dance Music beyond those listed above. From Tech Step to Hard Step and Tribal House to Hip House.

It is a form of music that will be around for years to come. As long as there is dancing, there will be Dance Music.
